- 2025 Belgian Long Distance Trail Championships
-
The license is compulsory and is only available to athletes who are members of an athletics club affiliated to one of the two leagues (LBFA or VAL).
This license MUST be notified in your registration (you can add it later, by modifying your registration via your management link). There are 6 podium finishes (Men and Women) for each of the 2 races (GT65)
- Scratch (1-2-3) all categories
- Category +35 (1-2-3)
- Category +50 (1-2-3)
A misunderstanding is sometimes noted, so it is useful to clarify that it is the three best Belgians who are awarded first on the main podium regardless of their age (TC championship meaning all-category championship).
Age categories only start at 35 (so there is no under-35 category). Therefore, a runner who is ranked in the top three under-35s but not in the top three overall will not be on the podium.
Riders over 35 who are on the scratch podium will take part in both podiums (scratch + category).

- 6. Rider commitment
-
To participate in GTLC events, you must :
- Be fully aware of the duration and specific nature of the event, and be fully prepared;
- Have acquired, prior to the race, a real capacity for personal autonomy enabling them to manage the problems inherent in this type of event, and in particular :
- Knowing how to cope, without outside help, with weather conditions that could be very difficult to manage (night, wind, cold, fog, rain, frost);
- Know how to manage physical or mental problems resulting from fatigue, digestive problems, muscular or joint pain, small wounds, etc., even when you're isolated...
- Be fully aware that the role of the organization is not to help a rider deal with these problems;
- Be fully aware that in such an activity, safety depends on the rider's ability to adapt to problems encountered or foreseen.
- Inform and educate members of the rider's entourage about respect for nature, people and race regulations.
Agree to receive newsletters providing information about the event.
- 7. Semi-autonomous
-
The principle of a semi-autonomous individual race is the rule. GTLC events take place in a single stage, at an indefinite pace, within the time limits specified for each event. Semi-autonomy is defined as the ability to be self-sufficient between two refreshment posts, in terms of food, clothing and safety, and to adapt to any problems encountered or anticipated (weather, physical problems, injuries, etc.).
This principle implies the following rules:
Each rider must carry all his compulsory equipment with him throughout the race (see paragraph 8. EQUIPMENT). At any time during the race, the pack and its contents may be checked by race officials. The rider must submit to these checks in good faith, at the risk of being excluded from the race.
Refreshment stations provide drinks and food to be consumed on site. The organization only provides still water or an energy drink for filling water bottles or hydration packs. On leaving the refreshment station, runners must ensure that they have the necessary quantity of food and drink to enable them to continue to the next refreshment station.
Personal assistance is tolerated exclusively at all refreshment posts, in the area specifically reserved for this purpose. Assistance may only be provided by one person, with no specific equipment other than a bag with a maximum volume of 30 liters. Assistance by a team of professionals, or any doctor or paramedic, is strictly forbidden. The rest of the refreshment area is strictly reserved for runners.
It is forbidden to accompany or be accompanied on any part of the race route by a person not registered for the race, outside the tolerance zones clearly marked near the refreshment posts, i.e. 50 metres before and 50 metres after the refreshment post.
It is forbidden at all other refreshment posts, as well as at any other point on the course.
- 8. Equipment
-
To ensure safety and the smooth running of each event, each participant must have all the compulsory equipment listed below.
Each participant must therefore present his or her compulsory equipment in order to collect his or her number, and agree to keep it with him or her for the duration of the event.
It's important to note that the equipment imposed by the organizers is a vital minimum that each runner must adapt to his or her own abilities. In particular, they should not choose the lightest possible clothing to save a few grams, but opt for clothing that offers real protection against the cold, wind, frost and snow, and therefore offers greater safety and better performance.

- 9. Doping control
-
The anti-doping rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the Belgian Athletics Federation (LBFA), the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) and the National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) are fully applied. These rules are available on the relevant websites. Athletes taking part in the competition are required to familiarize themselves with these rules, as well as with the testing, sanction and appeal procedures.
Any competitor may be subject to doping control before, during or at the finish of an event. In the event of refusal or abstention, the athlete will be sanctioned in the same way as if he or she had been convicted of doping.
- 10. Insurance
-
Competitors are invited to take out accident insurance. This must cover the potential costs of rescue operations and treatment. Any claim for damages by competitors against the race organizer, for whatever legal reason, is void.
Expenses arising from the use of exceptional means of rescue must be paid by the person rescued, who must also pay for his or her return from the place where he or she was evacuated. It is the rider's responsibility to create his own file and submit it to his insurance company within the allotted time.
- 11. Respect for the environment
-
By registering for GTLC events, participants undertake to respect the environment and the natural areas they cross. In particular:
It is strictly forbidden to leave garbage (gel tubes, paper, organic waste, plastic packaging, etc.) along the course. Garbage cans are available at each aid station and it is imperative that they are used. Race officials carry out random checks along the course.
All participants must keep their garbage and packaging with them until they can dispose of it in the bins provided at each aid station. The organization encourages runners to take a bag or pouch with them to carry their waste to the next bin.
It is imperative that you follow the paths as they are signposted, without shortening them.
No disposable plastic tableware (cutlery, cups, bowls) will be distributed at aid stations. The aim is to reduce the use of plastic by runners and GTLC volunteers alike.
- 12. Elite riders
-
As part of our commitment to recognizing top-level athletes and ensuring fair registration, we reserve places for elite athletes who request them, according to strict criteria based on the ITRA performance index.
All registration requests must be sent to us by email (info@grandtrail.be) 30 days before the race date. Registration for elite athletes is not automatic; each athlete must finalize his or her own registration upon receipt of the organizer's promotional code.
Having international elite status creates rights and duties for the athletes concerned. These are as follows:

Only the organization can transfer this right to images and videos to any media, via accreditation or an appropriate license.
Any communication about the event or the use of images or videos of the event must respect the name of the event.
- 14. Privacy policy
-
By registering, the participant accepts that personal data may be collected and passed on to third parties for the purposes of timekeeping, ranking and results as well as for the publication of the respective lists on the Internet.
Information is collected as part of a registration for one of the GTLC races, for the needs of the organization and in particular to identify each competitor in order to communicate information relating to his or her participation before, during or after the event.
The participant agrees that his or her first name, surname, country, date of birth, race number and results (ranking, time) may be published in all print and electronic media relevant to the event.
Runner data is kept in the database for 10 years. This period is renewable with each registration, and corresponds to the legal retention period for the medical certificate of non-contraindication to the practice of athletics or competitive running, or to the sports card. After 10 years, and unless the runner authorizes the organization to keep his/her data, all data will be deleted, with the exception of the runner's surname, first name, date of birth, gender and nationality, in order to maintain the ranking.
According to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU RGPD 2016/679 and 2018/1807), every competitor has the right to access and modify all information concerning him or her. This can be done via the event page via email. Any changes to data can be made by the competitors themselves.

Only in the event of withdrawal is the number deactivated.

As far as the environment is concerned, no paint is used on the paths.
- 20. Maximum authorized deadlines - Time barrier
-
